چکیده

1. The astragalotibial (hock) joints of normal young beef cattle contain large and uniform quantities of synovial fluid which is easily accessible for study. 2. Nucleated cells found in such synovial fluid are similar in numbers and types to those described previously in normal rabbits' synovia. 3. The fact that 90 to 95 per cent of all nucleated cells present are actively phagocytic implies that the function of these cells is the removal of the products of wear and tear from the articular cartilages and synovial membranes. 4. Red blood corpuscles seem to be present in numbers directly proportional to the trauma to which the synovial membrane is subjected. 5. The astragalotibial joints of young beef cattle contain from 3 to 5 times more fluid than do the corresponding joints of stable cattle. More débris and unidentified solid material is found in the latter group of animals. 6. The total nitrogen content of this synovial fluid was found to be 169 mg. per 100 cc. The approximate total protein content was calculated to be 680 mg. or 0.68 per cent per 100 cc. 7. No correlation between the total protein level and the total cell counts of isolated specimens of synovial fluid is possible from these data. 8. Further studies of synovial fluid and of its chemical similarity to blood serum of the same animals are in progress. 9. Articular cartilage defects occurring in the articular cartilages of the carpometacarpal joints are described. (A more detailed study of these articular cartilage lesions, the age at which they appear, possible causative factors, etc., is now being made.).

On the viscosity and pH of synovial fluid and the pH of blood.

During the last ten years there have been many studies of the physical and chemical properties of synovial fluid in relation to the production and prevention of joint lesions. These researches on the properties of normal human synovial fluid have nearly all been done on specimens obtained post morteFn, all other work on the normal having been done on fluid obtained from the joints of cattle. Fu...

Synovial fluid inflammatory cytokines and proteins in clinically healthy and arthritic joint of dromedary camels (Camelus dromedarius)

Analyzing the synovial fluid is one of the common methods to diagnose the articular problems to detect the stage and express the prognosis. Such gross, cytological, and biochemical analysis of synovial fluids can aid in the diagnosis of various joint diseases. Objectives: Normal values for synovial fluid in the camels have been described previously; however, there are no reports regarding conce...

14-3-3  Protein is Detectable in Blood Serum and Fetlock Joint Synovial Fluid of High Performance Horses

Objective: To investigate whether 14-3-3 eta protein is detectable in synovial fluid and blood serum of high performance horses and to study whether any significant correlation between this and matrix metalloproteinase 1 and 3 in horse synovial fluid. Design: Clinical study. Animals: Eleven standard breed horses (seven high performances and four controls). Procedures: Blood serum and fetlock...

Synovial fluid pharmacokinetics of tulathromycin, gamithromycin and florfenicol after a single subcutaneous dose in cattle

BACKGROUND Deep digital septic conditions represent some of the most refractory causes of severe lameness in cattle. The objective of this study was to determine the distribution of tulathromycin, gamithromycin and florfenicol into the synovial fluid of the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint of cattle after single subcutaneous administration of drug to evaluate the potential usefulness of these si...

تعیین سطح استرم -1 در مایع مفصلی جهت تشخیص آرتریت سپتیک کودکان

Background: Triggering receptors expressed on myeloid cells i.e soluble triggering expressed on myeloid cells-1 (STREM-1) is inducible on monocyte/macrophages and neutrophils and accelerates tissue destruction by propagating inflammatory responses in disease related to bacterial infections.   The aim of this study was to investigate the role of STREM-1 in the synovial fluid to identify septic...
